On 3rd December 2025, Makerere University held the Tumusiime-Mutebile Annual Public Lecture, a tradition created to honour the life and legacy of the late Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, a distinguished alumnus and former Governor of the Bank of Uganda, who passed away in 2022. The lecture celebrates his outstanding contributions to Uganda’s economic development and highlights how innovation, resilience, and forward-thinking leadership can shape Africa’s future.

This year’s lecture focused on three main themes—intergenerational leadership, economic resilience, and the power of innovation—which were central to Prof. Mutebile’s work and continue to influence national growth. Through this annual event, Makerere University not only preserves his memory but also celebrates other African leaders whose achievements inspire meaningful dialogue, inform policy, and guide the next generation of visionary thinkers.
