A Medical Student’s Journey with the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation
I am Jackson Nuwamanya, a third-year medical student at Kabale University, pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
In my second year, second semester, my life took an unexpected turn. The man who had raised me as a father since childhood and supported my education conducted a DNA test. Unfortunately, the results were negative, and he withdrew all the care and financial support he had been providing.
With no one left to pay my tuition, I requested a dead year from the university. During that period, I worked at a restaurant in Lira to try and save some money to resume my studies, but the income was very little and not sustainable.
In July 2025, I requested permission from the administration of Kabale University to conduct a fundraising campaign for my tution fees, to enable me resume my studies. Permission was granted; however, the process was so arduous that I had less time for classes, as much of my time was spent fundraising.
But then, something life-changing happened.
During the semester, I received a call from Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation through Mrs. Angella, who brought light into one of the darkest moments of my life. The good news was that the foundation had considered me for a scholarship.
This opportunity relieved me from the heavy burden of tuition and restored my hope of completing my studies. My dream is to become a medical doctor, serve communities, save lives, and give back to society.
I sincerely extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation for believing in me and bringing light back into my life.
